The History and People of The Range

About Redricks Ranges

Looking for a thrilling new hobby, great gift idea  or a unique team-building experience? Skill at Arms in Sawbridgeworth is the perfect destination for both individuals, families and corporate groups seeking an adrenaline-pumping activity. This state-of-the-art indoor .22 calibre  shooting facility combines the precision of marksmanship with the excitement of competition, with some modern and historical guns!

Our background, we are a company of shooting enthusiasts with many combined years of game and target shooting under our belts, both for fun and for competition. Many of our instructors are military and all are NRA qualified Range Officers, trained in skill at arms, weapon handling and firearms instruction. Many of the staff compete regularly in National Service Rifle Competitions and have competed in various disciplines for over 30 years at venues all over the Country and abroad. All our instructors are members of relevant national governing bodies and are fully insured.

Redricks Ranges were built on the site of an old army base from the Second World War. The buildings were originally used as a pig farm and then later to grow mushrooms but lay essentially unused for nearly 50 years.

Unused that was until just as Covid hit it was decided to convert the building into a range.

What ensued was a frantic struggle to source building materials, control social distancing amongst the workforce and rush to get ready to open as the lockdowns finished, a time period the length of which we had no idea. This we actually managed to achieve and by the end of the year the build was finally completed.

With the nice new facility to fill it soon became the home of Redricks Target Shooting Club, Yeomanry Rifle Club and the main base of operations of Skill At Arms Ltd and AR15.co.uk.

A little about Skill At Arms

Skill at Arms offers a safe, supervised environment, where novices and experienced shooters alike can test their skills with .22 calibre rifles. Whether handling World War II-style firearms or modern assault rifles, participants are guided by expert instructors to ensure both safety and mastery. With packages catering to all experience levels, from first-timers to seasoned shooters, there’s something for everyone.

For businesses, the venue serves as a fantastic team-building opportunity. Target shooting encourages focus, communication, and collaboration—key skills for any workplace. The sense of accomplishment, whether through individual accuracy or collective goals, leaves teams feeling united and motivated.

Skill at Arms also offers various themed packages, including the “World War II” experience and the popular “Gamers” package, where visitors can challenge themselves to become sharpshooters in a dynamic and immersive setting. Whether celebrating a birthday or simply trying something new, the experience at Skill at Arms is unforgettable.

The venue’s combination of competitive, fun, and safe shooting challenges ensures an engaging atmosphere, perfect for bonding with friends, family, or colleagues. Whether you’re aiming for the bullseye or aiming to strengthen teamwork, Skill at Arms promises an exciting day out.

Skill At Arms has been providing shooting experiences to individuals and groups since 2015 and have introduced many hundreds of people to our wonderful sport. Many have taken up the challenge and rewards of joining clubs and getting their own firearms and many now compete in shooting competitions. For those that don’t take it up we like to think we have somewhat demystified the world of target shooting and given many a better understanding of what sensible firearm ownership is all about, how it can be an inclusive sport like no other and the joy and sense of satisfaction target shooting can bring.
